Today marks exactly 15 years ago since Rank 1 announced they were going to do a Monthly Radioshow. Initially they started off their "Rank 1's Radi Rush" as a monthly one hour radioshow on AH.fm, from April 2010 until December 2012. But from Episode #35 onward, they moved to DI.fm and expanded their show to two hours. And that's not all, the second hour would feature guestmixes by... Anyone who applied for a guestmix spot! That's right! Rank 1 gave aspiring DJs the chance to showcase their stuff. My good friend Rok was featured on episode XX and another guy we knew from the A State Of Trance forum called Kirill Smirnov even got featured two times. For me tuning into Rank 1's Radio Rush was a ritual of sorts. The fact that my favorite artists had their own monthly selection for me to look forward to was bliss: would they premiere a new track on the night?? Or would they drop a forgotten Classic or even an unreleased track from their massive backcatalog at the end? Perhaps a new Benno gem from one of Benno's sideprojects might pop up (Jochen Miller / Gaia / his stuff with Armin)? And just what kind of crazy Electro-Clash/Tech Trance/Bigroom stompers would Piet unleash on us?? And there were some unexpected Easter eggs too: The first 20 episodes or so Benno would do voice-overs and it was through this that I eventually discovered who was the mysterious unmentioned vocalist on Rank 1's magical and underrated "After Me"... ...Was Benno himself all along!! Oh the shock and joy at this revelation at the time... It's got me smiling again and this right here is such a red thread in being a Rank 1 fan for over 20 years now... I've always had so much fun with the music these guys made and I had loads of fun looking forward to RRR every month, specualating away! I did my best to hunt down the tracklists and IDs and I would say that their Radioshow was a pivotal element that drove me into making The Rank 1 Fan- and Symsonic1 Blogs over time. Sadly, the guys quit their radioshow after 4,5 years, ending it all with a special vinyl set for Episode #56 showcasing some of their best Rank 1 tracks to date. There is that saying that goes something along the lines of: "Don't be sad it's over, be happy it happened". I would rephrase that to never lose yourself in the sorrow of something good coming to an end. Instead, cherish that it happened in the first place, keep those warm and fun memories close to your heart. It's okay to be sad about it ending. Just don't lose sight of the incredible journey you had. :) 15 years after it first launched, I will honor Rank 1's Radio Rush with a special Razormane Selects: I've picked 56 of my favorite Radio Rush tracks for this showcase... Why 56 you ask? Well, there were 56 episodes, seems only fitting to pull a Rank 1 of sorts in that way hehe... ;) I might also have cheated a wee bit by slipping in some tracks that were technically not on Radio Rush but they sure as hell were in Piet's recordbag when I attended his DJ sets and he blew my mind to smithereens!
