| Dear friends! It's December 2025 (*shock*)... And this will be the last regular Razormane Selects of this cycle... We have have only one more list to go. The annual, traditional Top 30 of the year! I am still finalizing it, got some tough choices to make. I am throwing in a little bonus though! This year I've decided to start a new Themed playlist and it ties in with the very origin of this blog... But more on that later! This month's special mention has to go Benno de Goeij's brand new ethereal/Ambient project "Ben Norderfeld". By now six beautiful singles have been revealed on Spotify and a little birdy told me, a whole album might be released at some point but don't quote me on that: just follow Ben on Spotify and keep a close eye on your notifications, trust me. ;) And be sure to support the six singles that are already here! Benno recently this is the kind of music that actually got him into making music and it shows: he states he's just having fun in the studio but that liberty is translated into the sheer beauty and imagination these tracks contain AND evoke as you listen through them... I am absolutely thrilled that my GOAT is just releasing gem after gem, it's just like the old days a decade-and-a-half back when he he had several sideprojects running simultaneously whilst perfecting his sounds as Rank 1... Some things DO come in cycles!! :D Another mention for this December edition has to go to the sublime Velvet Seas album by longtime heroes Kraak & Smaak. Incredible '70s grooves mixed with the usual swagger and vocal perfection we've come to expect from them! Discovering Pleasure Centre last year was one of the musical highlights of 2024 for me, the very same can be said for Velvet Seas this year! As was the case then, the Ivar tracks in particular are really doing it for me "Travel Light" being a firm favorite but "Nothing Is Forever" is doing an equally fine job! So be sure to give it a spin if you get the chance! :D Last but not least, a shout-out to Armin van Buuren: for nearly 6 years he's been practicising playing on the piano to deliver something completely different: a Classical Ppiano album he claims as "his most personal project yet", one he was willing to completely pay for from his own pocket... Eventually his label manager was convinced by his passion and decided to let the label cover all the costs. As we've seen in the recent past, whenever Armin takes a break from the commercial Pop Dance albums to make something different (read: something cool!), it tends to be special and worthwile: it was the case in 2019 with Moons Of Jupiter, it was the case in 2021 with A State Of Trance Forever and it is the case now with the aptly titled Piano. It might not be everybody's cup of coffee, but if you love Trance, I am going to guess that you at the very least have some affinitiy for the genre's partial roots in Classical music so... Go and show Armin some love! Other than that, expect tasty music by the likes of Airscape/Johan Gielen, The Thrillseekers, Lange, Cosmic Gate, BLR, Marco V, Ferry Corsten, HI-LO and three killer classics from 2003, 2007 and 2012! See you on the last day of the year for the Top 30! :D And excuse all the exclamation marks, this final Selection is just SO GOOD... |
