| It's been roughly 13 months since Benno de Goeij announced his new solo project "BnO". He's released four singles under this name and in between found the time to create three Rank 1 tracks (one remix, two solo singles) which have been amazing addditions to the legendary discography. On Friday October 17th he launched another solo project: this one is called "Ben Norderfeld". If the BnO alias carried on where his 2017-2018 co-productions with Lulleaux left off, then the Ben Norderfeld moniker promises to lean more towards the quardrant of ambient Moons Of Jupiter Gaia soundscapes he co-crafted in 2018-2019: lush, deep, ambient textures, albeit the Norderfeld alias could be going for an even deeper/minimalistic approach. If the social media bios are anything to go by, this project is about Benno reflecting on life around him as it happens, drawing inspiration from nature, his vast life experiences, the endless capabilities of music itself. Or as his TikTok account phrases it "Just thoughts on a musical level". |

| You might have noticed that on his X and Instagram pages, Benno occasionally dropped some scenic posts of the Netherlands this year, marveling at the beauty of nature, the architecture of certain city areas, etc. It seems moments like that might be the driving inspiration behind this new alias. Those tender moments of fleeting perfection where you move through an area, be that urban or natural and everything just feels right: the temperature, how the light shines in that particular moment... Small moments of serene inner peace where you are locked in on this small segment of spacetime and you feel the purest form of content. Very reflexive, perhaps philosophical almost... "Aurelian" is delightful: it's deeper tones convey a fullness whilst the main motif adds a layer of emotion without ever fully "emerging". The lush deep pads are like a warm aural embrace. It's a very dreamy affaire and one that instantly creates images of early morning walks in the winter, bare trees with a layer of frost on them; it's slightly misty and there is maybe a vague ray of sunshine coming through, to create an almost eerie setting but thanks to the music it turns to a more mystical/magical feeling... It's those type of mornings that are rife with "perfect little moments". They will be gone as soon as they arrived but they are irrestible nonetheless. :) |

| The Musical stories Benno de Goeij has to tell are Far From Over (wink ;)). His creativity still has some corners to explore and that hunger to try something new, something different but do it in his terms is what has allowed this man to craft the music he has been crafting for nearly 30(!!) years. Ben Norderfeld promises to be another promising chapter in this exciting, enchanting and mesmerizing book. As a life-long De Goeij fan I have to say this is an incredibly exciting era to follow the Maestro. BnO tracks can range anywhere from catchy Pop Dance Anthem wrapped in either Melodic/Deep House influences to Eurodance revivals, whereas the Rank 1 sound is finally back in the realm of Uptempo +139 BPM. Strobo's original felt like a part-throwback to the Might of L.E.D. There Be Light, and a part throwback to the Club Trance era where a good hook was built on minimal distractions. The Deeper Dub Mix honored the oldskool alternative dub mixes / B-sides with a rougher, heavier no-nonsense banging approach. Lytherion meanwhile mixed everything that is great about Rank 1 past-and-present into an incredibly Melodic Trance anthem with a Twist. And now we're getting a side-project that drops the 4x4s altogether and brings peace to us after all that energetic dancing, chairraving and fistpumping? What more could you possibly ask for? :D Go ahead and give Aurelian a spin and grab it of Junodownload for your collection. I am pretty sure we are in for a magical ride with Ben Norderfeld. ^^ |
