Halfway through this batch we hand the stage to one of my music heroes since 2008: Joris Voorn. His album Four was released in late 2019 and originally I intended to buy it in early 2020 but due to the pandemic diverting my attention away from staying up to date with Dance Music, it just kept catching dust in my Beatport wishlist. Until now!
I actually don't feel like spoiling its contents too much but what I will say is that if like me, you absolutely LOVED Ryo and especially Antigone back in 2019, then the rest of the album is going to be up your alley for sure. And I think Messiah with vocals by HÆLOS might be a real surprise. Voorn has proven over the decades to be a versatile master of his craft, whether traversing the rougher soundscapes of all things Techno, or the groovy happy places of House and subgenres, his layering, synth choices, hooks, sound effects, arrangements and ear for detail guarantee an immersive sonic and often melodic experience. This album captures that and even though I haven't listened to it in its intended order, I absolutely love it. I just shuffled this batch the last couple of days, the moment one of his album tracks is on I KNOW it's his and I can just drift away in thought with a smile as my ears are massaged by one melodic treat after the other. A little off-topic perhaps, but if you get the chance check out some of his live studio sessions, in particular this one where he reworks the phenomenal Orlando Voorn (Format #1) - Solid Session:
Massive, isn't it? Anyhoo, check out his album Four and dive into his discography, he has made so many incredible tracks and remixes over the course of the last two decades or so.
